8/9/25 A Vessels Purpose

In this series we have identified our formation at the hands of the Potter, God Almighty. He has utilized his chosen material, clay to symbolize When we think about our purpose as vessels, it’s essential to reflect on what God intends for us. We are called to serve a greater purpose in the Kingdom of God. These are the special purposes eluded to in the word as opposed to common usage. Being a vessel is about allowing God’s love, grace, and word to flow through us because vessels are made to hold things. Just as jars are used to hold and contain valuable treasures, we hold Christ’s Spirit within. Our purpose is to fulfill God’s mission, spreading love and compassion to those around us. Paul gets us closer to this

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:10

Workmanship-GR Poiema Literally something that has been made. But notice the source, created in Christ Jesus.

The purpose is good works. You may think didn’t we cover this last week? Yes to some extent. I want to emphasize a portion that was not in last weeks teachings. Pay close attention to how this is worded. God prepared beforehand. Some translations say ordained as in prepare beforehand, or appoint before. Again this goes back to what I said a few weeks back about your calling is 100% yours. God put you in a specific place, at a specific time, to interact with specific people, and created in you, equipped you to do it.

This includes holiness, because that is being set apart for sacred use, which is what this is saying and what you get when you are used for special purposes going back to Romans 9:21, meaning the results are gained for Divine purposes as we give ourselves into the hands of the Potter to be used as his vessels for his use from day to day.

Further, this says that we should walk in them. Let’s start wide and get narrow on the meaning of this. When the Bible uses the analogy of walk it means path of life. Every day, all you encounter, it is your path of life. This is the course that you walk until your last day.

So when we get narrow lens here, that means these good works that you are given access to when you are in Christ Jesus this means that the Lord who operates outside of time, space, matter who came into the physical to form you in the womb, forming the vision he had for you knowing the course of life & giving you opportunities to do more than just common things, but to have the means to understand this, appreciate this it takes what we said going back several weeks in being filled by God, with the Spriit of Jesus, the Holy Spirit, there’s that word again, holy, to have the eyes and heart to achieve these thongs on the day to day.

“In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.” – 2 Timothy 2:20-21

Here is the break down so we can draw in in our lives in the Potter’s hand & just what that means. Paul uses another analogy here and distinction between the valued articles & the cheap articles. When it says cleanse yourself, this is not a bath, this is not what we may believe by reading it literally. This is about separation, the call from Paul is do not align yourself with those who are merely being used by the Potter for common use. The verse directly says for the intent of being used for special purposes. Then it says made HOLY-again set apart for sacred use.

Here is the go home, useful to the Master, prepared for any good work.

Useful because you have given yourself back to the Potter. So let’s get into good works. This is what the purpose of your life. Good works do not save you. They are result of your being saved. They do not make the Potter love you more, he shows his love by using you for these works. 1st let’s ask what it takes to do them ,

Titus 3 calls for devotion to do them. V14 says Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.

Further V1 & 2 be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.

It isn’t complicated. It comes from faith, it comes from surrender to the will of the Spirit who will change you.
