7/19/25 Cleansed by the Master
There are toxins in this world that are not natural to this world. We can look at the obvious things like weeds, pollution and decay. In Gensis 1 none of this was here. If you want a picture of how the life was to be for us it is in Genesis 1-2. Later the fallen state of creation came into contact with of sickness disease. But the real toxicity showed itself in the hearts of man.
Now remember what we have learned in this series so far. If you want to answer the question of purpose this series is for you. Remember what we have covered this far. Each one of us was a vision of God who was going to form us in the womb. He started not with our physicality but with our souls. This shows you the priority & why your outer being is less important than your inner being. He used the earth starting with Adam to bring from to us all. Ps 139 Isa 64 Romans 9 are all points of reference here. Later we learn he sees us as clay formed in the hand of himself the potter. The potter makes pots> If our bodies are clay, we are made to hold something. This something is what gives you an elevated purpose. That something is Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit we leaned has a multitude of purposes & is only available at the embracing of the sacrifice of Jesus for our failings which brings us to today’s teaching. But sometimes our theology puts things on Holy Spirit to achieve that are our responsibility.
Col 3:5-8 5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
No where in Col 3 is Holy Ghost mentioned, in other words this is our task. Notice V7, this verse is impactful. This is a notice of change & who you follow because it references following the worlds ways, what is culturally acceptable. The follow up is in V8 the emphasis is what we have to do as children of God. Notice the list is a mix between emotions & actions, attitudes & communication.
Now let’s talk sanctification, which is a continual process of pruning you of these as long as you give it your effort. Here is why. You have to be willing. Just like salvation you have to be willing to surrender your life to Jesus, he doesn’t come busting through the door in your life demanding you lay your burdens down, you have to ask him. Sanctification is the same, you have to want it for him to give it to you. You may ask why do I need Him to help me stop sinful habits, I have will power, I have self-discipline. You may, & that is not to be discounted but again we come back to you cannot solve a spiritual problem with physical solutions. These habits are signs of our sin nature & cultural teachings because we live in a fallen world ruled by a fallen choir boy who operates from the spiritual realm.
The process in this provokes the Holy Spirit to begin to take action. Speaking of action there is one that is not often acted upon taught by John.
1 John 1:9 “But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”
Confess. Not to a person in a pastoral position, not a priest, to him. As in the Savior of the world. If you do not recognize him he does not recognize you. If you do not recognize your need for him then you will not get the solution for why you need him. Forgiveness is essential to have access to the Almighty through the atoning work of Jesus. Without forgiveness we do not have access to the Father, which means he does not have to listen to our prayer or meet the covenant obligations cut by the Son of God.
So if we are crafted by the Father who is the Potter and we are the clay, the hands of the Potter are necessitated but again you have to be willing for him to take what he knitted you in the womb to be, to be all he wanted you to be.
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” – Romans 12:1
We have to call on the hands of the Potter to do something in our life that we cannot so on our own. You see through the series we have tried to paint the picture that your body doesn’t belong to you it did not come from you it did not come from your parents, it came from deep in the earth and formed by the hands of God! Your life if you gave your life to Jesus you received the Holy Spirit, that means you said Jesus take the wheel. You are to offer your body as a living sacrifice because your life is now set aside for the purpose to serve him in worship.
You may say preacher you don’t understand my life is mine my body is mine and I say that is not what the verse says, you see it says Holy and pleasing to God offering to God that means that you are giving back to him set aside for his purpose because that is what Holy means. You are being told to set your life your body aside for something sacred, something consecrated for the purposes of God. Isn’t that a reflection of what we learned back in Romans 9:21 you were made for special purposes and common use! How do you get this elevation? I told you The word of God tells you. Giving your life to Jesus the Potter himself following him through the Holy Spirit and submitting your life as a sacrifice of worship!
Do you wanna be more in the Kingdom then when you set yourself aside and let the King of kings take over he gonna lead you into a higher place!
