11/15/25 To the one, Elevation
In the last 2 wks. We have examined this passage Rev 2:26-28, seen that it is Christ speaking to church of Thyatira & speaks of himself in this passage as he speaks in the singular, as well as what will be done & what needs to be done to receive the result. In depth we examined the words of Jesus here to present the case that he has achieved authority, the how, the breadth & the truth of how he will operate in authority.
Revelation 2:26-28 To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations— 27 that one ‘will rule them with an iron scepter and will dash them to pieces like pottery’—just as I have received authority from my Father. 28 I will also give that one the morning star. 29 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
Today we examine this mysterious reward for the one that is victorious, which means it is not won, it is not provided, it is earned. Jesus will provide, he is the giver of this to those who have achieved. Note this achievement is earned by overcoming. Not swaying to the culturally acceptable worship of unbiblical teachings. Here earlier in the chapter is a reference to a teacher known as Jezebel. This centers around false teaching. Leading people astray, by giving them hope that they are walking in the ways of God & deceiving them.
In V27 the promise is unveiled that Jesus will be the shepherd of those who overcome with a rod of iron. This is a shepherd tool to implement punishment. Let’s draw this out. This is for those who participated in the messianic Kingdom on earth, set themselves apart from the sways of culture, who do not conform to the pattern of this world (Romans 12:2) these are the overcomers. That no matter what is done to them, taken from them, cling to the faith in the one who rose on the third day, the one who said I am for you, who can be against you? (Romans 8:31) Who are willing to be martyred, who are willing to endure the suffering of this life & refuse to let go of the Hand that holds them, he is your shepherd!
V28 is the outcome of a shepherd recognizing what has been endured, even to the point of suffering for allegiance. This is essentially what it comes down to, is allegiance to the messiah & his ideals. You cannot receive the prize without allegiance. Let’s talk about the prize. The morning star. Many are confused as to what this means. There is a Jewish tradition that suffering saints will be made like stars to shine forever post raised from the dead. Is that correct? Well let’s look at the law of first mentions.
Isa 14:12 How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!
This is a portion of the story of the fall of a heaven dwelling being many theologians believe to be Lucifer, who was called morning star. The key to this scripture is that there is rebellion which occurred in heaven against the Most High. Rebellion is not allegiance, right? The morning star is apparently a title or a position. The star precedes the sun rising. Shines before the sun rises, and is also used in 2 Peter 2:19, Revelation 22:16 with additional context presented to its meaning. This light shines on the darkness of a soul, and in Revelation Jesus calls himself the Morning Star.
It can be concluded that this is tied to Messianic Rule as a representative of. For Jesus as Messiah is the King of the Messiah movement. This means that as an overcomer, one who relentlessly gripped the hand of Messiah throughout the trials of life. Having faith in, walking in, the ways of the Savior & not buckling to the rituals & routines of mankind. The prize for those who are overcomers will be in the presence of the morning star you have hoped in.
There is more to this which will be unveiled in the series as we go, but this should be even more of a blessed assurance that what you have in the afterlife, what you have in the post Great Tribulation conclusion will be something that far exceeds your expectations. It should be something that inspires you to serve in the name of Christ, to love your neighbor even when your neighbor is less than neighborly, to endure the hardship, the suffering one second at a time because your redeemer, your savior, your deliverer has not, will not overlook your allegiance.
