Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace
The fourth part of our series of In him, we get to the most instrumental portion of the introductory phase of the series, because today’s verse exhibits the necessity of what is needed to be in him. This ingredient is so important that last week’s lesson about submission to Holy Spirit would not have any meaning until you do this.
In him we have redemption through his blood. Some of you have heard this message plenty of times because you’re faithful to the church you read God’s word and you embrace the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Others of you, are going to churches led by motivational speakers and not knowing the true gospel of Jesus Christ.
To fully understand the deep significant meaning and a proper biblical understanding we’re going to approach the gospel from a different point of view, one not often considered or even taught upon. We are past Passover, resurrection day has come and gone so my hope is that you know the know the truth of Messiah, his flogging, his piercing, his crown of thorns, and his 3 hours on the cross as the lamb of God bleeding out for the sins of the world.
I am willing to guess most of you do not know that Saturday he went to hell to rescue those in Sheol & confront the imprisoned spirits to tell them the hope of their freedom is now dashed because of their rebellion against God Almighty.
I am under the belief you know that on the 3rd day he emerged from the tomb with the stone rolled away, that he appeared to Mary, Martha and then the disciples, then others proving he over came the world, he who became sin overcame it nailing to a tree so that it would not be attached to us, he over came the devil & his hope to destroy and kill the Savior of the world. So death cannot hold him, —but many do not understand why & that is where I get into this angle.
For you to be redeemed that means you need redeemed, but from what? Redemption is a legal term which is a common theme in the Word of God with several legal terms cascading over the scripture you read. Testimony, judgment, forgiven, witness, law, Covenant, justification, statutes adoption, and advocate. These all appear in the word of God making it seem as though Redeemed by the blood is utilized for legal purposes. And several regions of the Bible we learned that there are heavenly courts. There is a place in the heavenly realm where court is in session we see this in the following examples:
Daniel 7:9-10: “As I continued to watch, thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took His seat. His clothing was white as snow… The court was convened, and the books were opened.” Here, God is the supreme Judge, and the setting includes a courtroom environment with books of record.
Psalm 82:1: “God presides in the divine assembly; He renders judgment among the gods.” The psalmist testifies to a divine council in which the Lord judges all spiritual powers.
Revelation 20:11-12: “Then I saw a great white throne… And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne. And there were open books.” This ultimate judgment scene shows a future “court” in which all humanity is evaluated according to divine records.
We can see in additional scripture that satan is a prosecuting attorney Zechariah 3:1-2: “Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, with Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. And the LORD said to Satan: ‘The LORD rebukes you, Satan!’” This depicts an explicit courtroom-like scene where accusation and acquittal occur, highlighting God’s prerogative to vindicate His people.
Revelation 12:10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.
God the Father is judge, before him are the books that document deeds (Daniel 7:10; Revelation 20:12). This idea resonates with the broader biblical teaching that nothing escapes God’s notice (Psalm 139:1-4), serving as documentation of evidence.
The defense attorney is none other than the Messiah. Romans 8:34: “It is Christ who died, and more than that, was raised to life, who is at the right hand of God-and He is interceding for us.” The resurrected Christ stands in perpetual advocacy, providing believers with full assurance of divine redemption.
Since the books are present, heavenly representatives are present to carry out God’s directives (Psalm 103:20) and may serve as witnesses in these divine proceedings (Job 1:6; 2:1), some theologians call these the watchers. The term for watcher is from the Aramaic word “`iyr” and means “wakeful one, watcher,” or “angel” meaning this a class of angel who are not necessarily messenger, warring, guardian or worship angels. Daniel 4:13 Nebuchadnezzar’s dream spoke of a watchers, “I saw in the visions of my head while on my bed, and there was a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven”
When you put it altogether, you have legal preceding’s with an accuser coming against you every day who wants the Righteous Judge to bring a sentence against you because of the law. Every day we break the law. Every day we are made to deal with circumstances from both within and externally to drive us to sin where the punishment is death. The prosecuting attorney has a 3 fold agenda he operates by, to steal, kill & destroy. He is wanting to sink his teeth in you.
But I must declare that that the defense attorney was said to provide all of our needs through his heavenly treasure. Our needs are beyond physical goods, we have spiritual needs as well, including a defense attorney, which he is. That blood that he shed, is the blood needed to redeem us of all of our wrong doing. Redeems us from the accusations of the prosecuting attorney because the Savior declares by my blood they are redeemed. The judge sees the blood on the cross as evidence, he gets a word from the testimony team who present the books as evidence and say the blood has been declared & according to our records all we see is the blood.
The judge declares that the accused are therefore by the law, which states there is no redemption without the shedding of blood. Therefore, Ephesians 1:7 rightfully declares In him we have redemption through his blood
